The next poet laureate of the United States, W. S. Merwin, was also the subject of a Many Mountains Moving special issue in 2001, guest edited by Mark Irwin. It’s a beautiful issue, around 180 pages.

If you are a fan of Merwin, this is something you might really want to get, and there are only about 47left of the original thousands that were printed. The guest editor may have a handful left, as well.

It features some of Merwin’s earlier poems and some new poems, an interview with W. S. Merwin, essays on Merwin by Forrest Gander, John Reyes, H. L. Hix, Tony Hoagland, John Hobbs, W. Scott Howard, Mark Irwin, Marilyn Krysl, Laurence Lieberman, Tod Marshall, David Mason, George Moore, Laura Mullen, Amy Newman, Anna Rabinowitz, Bin Ramke, Bill Rector, Donald Revell, David St. John, Patiann Rogers, Robert Wallace, Renate Wood, and C. D. Wright. There is also a ghazal by Shahid Ali, “Ghazal for W. S. Merwin: New Ghost Is What You Are.” It also includes some b/w photos of the poet, his wife and his dogs.

If you want one, send $9 (check) to “Many Mountains Moving” at 1705 Lombard St., Phila. PA 19146. (USPS shipping free).
